Learn about Adelaide University's learning management system and learning ecosystem, myLearning, including the tools within it. This resource also summarises the training and support options available to you for using myLearning.

What is myLearning?

What is myLearning?

myLearning encompasses the Adelaide University learning management system and broader learning ecosystem. It is what you will use to develop and deliver your courses, and what your learners will use to view course content, submit assignments and more!

At myLearning's core is its learning management system, Canvas. Canvas offers basic functionalities, like for pages, assignments, quizzes, marking and communicating with learners.

There are then numerous additional learning technologies integrated into Canvas to form our learning ecosystem, myLearning. These technologies build upon what Canvas offers, adding new and enhanced features to the site. For example, Panopto adds new video management capabilities, H5P adds the ability to create interactive learning activities, and Cidi Labs DesignPLUS enhances page editing features.

Note some of these tools are available only to specific disciplines. For example, Mobius - a quizzing tool that allows for complex mathematical equations - is only available in maths-related courses. For a full list of discipline-specific tools, refer to the AU Intranet.

There are many more integrated technologies available in myLearning, all to help you create digitally rich and engaging experiences for your learners!

Coming from UniSA learnonline or UoA MyUni?

Canvas is the learning management system for myLearning, just like Moodle is for learnonline and Canvas is for MyUni. The tools available in myLearning differ from those in learnonline and MyUni (even though MyUni and myLearning both use Canvas). However, myLearning offers nearly all of the same features available in learnonline and MyUni. See the learnonline and MyUni feature equivalency resources for more information.

Stand alone learning and teaching tools

Not every tool you use for learning and teaching is part of the myLearning learning ecosystem. For example, creative arts courses might require Adobe Photoshop, and engineering courses might use AutoCAD. Both of these tools are available in Adelaide University, but not from within myLearning. These are called stand alone tools, a complete list of which can be found in the AU Intranet.

The myLearning learning ecosystem contains a variety of integrated tools that enhance and add to the functionality of the base Canvas learning management system.

The table below speaks to each of these tools in a bit more detail, with links to relevant resources in the Learning Centre (or elsewhere), where available. You can select the table headers to sort items by tool name or category. Note that not all of these tools are currently available in myLearning (marked with a pending icon ) - refer to Course Development Essentials for availability timelines.

EzExtend	Assignments	Allows assignment extension requests to be made (by learners) and managed (by educators) all within myLearning.

Mentimeter	Collaboration	Engage learners in real-time (or asynchronous) polling and quizzin using PowerPoint-live presentations.
Microsoft 365	Collaboration	Allows learners to quickly generate shared documents (e.g. Word files) for collaborating on group work.
Miro	Collaboration	Create collaborative digital whiteboards for you and your learners to use for discussions, project planning, ideas sharing and more!
OnTask+	Course management and insights	Send messages to many learners at once based on their engagement in different areas of a course.
Panopto	Videos and H5Ps	Record, upload, edit, store and embed video content for your course.
Respondus 4.0	Assignments	Develop quizzes offline (to then upload into myLearning).
Respondus LockDown Browser	Assignments	Allows you to lock down learner devices and create secure testing environments for quizzes.
Roll Call Attendance	Assignments	Keep track of learner attendance in in-person and online classes.
Studiosity	Learner support	Connects learners to online tutors for academic support.
Study Help	Learner support	A hub for learners to access study help resources from their myLearning courses.
Teaching Hub	Course management and insights	A hub for educators that provides important course information, including learning insights.
Toolkit	Course management and insights	Allows educators the ability to manage certain aspects of their courses (such as scheduled recordings). Specific functions to be determined.
Turnitin	Assignments	A text-matching tool that detects potential plagiarism in learner assignment submissions.
Zoom	Videos and H5Ps	Facilitate live, online webinars.

Note on using SCORM in myLearning

SCORM is enabled for use in myLearning. However, its use is discouraged because:

Adelaide University does not have an enterprise licensing agreement for SCORM authoring software (i.e. Articulate Storyline), making it impossible to edit and maintain SCORM interactives into the future.
SCORM packages must be retained within course files and are prone to being lost during course rollovers.

H5P is the recommended alternative to SCORM. Adelaide University has an enterprise license for H5P and the tool allows more sustainable options for sharing content between users and across courses. TALAS can assist in redeveloping SCORM packages as H5Ps if required (contact the AU LMS Support Team for triaging with TALAS if you're not in an active course development cycle). However, SCORM use may be appropriate for highly complex interactives and/or courses with a high volume of existing SCORM packages.

Training and support options

Training and support options

Adelaide University offers several avenues for you to get training and support in using myLearning. The options available depend on what type of training/support you're looking for.

Need	Training/support available
Pedagogical/design support	The TALAS Team, an amalgamation of UniSA's TIU (Teaching Innovation Unit) and UoA's LEI (Learning Enhancement and Innovation) is available during course development for pedagogical and design support. TALAS includes a dedicated Media Production Team to help with media development. If you're not in an active course development cycle, but still require pedagogical/design support, contact the AU LMS Support Team for triaging with TALAS.
Technical training	The Learning Centre (the course you're currently in) is a repository of technical training resources that is developed and maintained by the AU LMS Training Theme (a TALAS subgroup). The AU LMS Training Theme also offers live training options for certain foundational and niche myLearning features. The Learning Centre is available to all staff, regardless of course development cycles, but does not include resources on discipline-specific tools.
Technical support	If you require technical support, you can contact the AU LMS Support Team. The AU LMS Support Team is an experienced, Adelaide-based technical support team from TALAS who can support: any questions you might have about myLearning (Canvas and all enterprise-wide learning ecosystem tools) triaging with TALAS (if you're not in an active course development cycle) triaging for help with discipline-specific tools the creation of program and support sites
Course development support	The AU Course Development Essentials site is available to everyone involved in course development.
