Overview

The AU LMS Training Team offers live training for different aspects of using AU Canvas to support you during Part 3 Course Development. In these sessions, we provide technical demonstrations and allow you the opportunity to ask questions.

Live training options

Below you'll find summaries of the live training options provided by the AU LMS Training Team, as well as links to register for them. All live training is held online via Teams Webinars.

It is recommended that you attend as much live training as you can, but especially those marked with a yellow star . These sessions cover foundational topics for using AU Canvas and are relevant to the development of all courses.

Building your course

Based on the Modules, pages & files and H5P modules, this session will show you how to set up your course using the AU Course Template and create interactive learning content using H5P.

You'll learn:

how to create modules and pages
how to use the AU Course Template
how to use Cidi Labs DesignPLUS relevant to the Template
how to create H5P activities.

Creating assessments

Based on the Assessments module, in this training you'll learn about inbuilt Canvas assessment options. We'll also introduce you to additional assessment tools that're integrated into the learning ecosystem.

You'll learn:

how to create assignments
how to create rubrics
how to grade learners (just a brief overview)
how to weight assignments
what integrated assessment tools are available and what they can do
how to create a quiz
how to use item banks to reuse and share quiz questions.

Creating and adding videos

Based on the Videos module, this training will show you how to use Panopto to upload, create and embed video content.

You'll learn:

how to navigate and find content in Panopto
how to upload videos to Panopto
how to embed videos into your course
how to record videos using Panopto
how to edit videos using Panopto.

Creating FeedbackFruits assessments

This training will show you how to configure, use and grade FeedbackFruits Group Member Evaluations.

FeedbackFruits Group Member Evaluations allow learners to evaluate group members, such as by their level of contribution toward group work. These evaluations can be formative or affect learners' grades (manually or automatically), and can help to improve learners' group work, evaluation and self-reflection skills.

This training will show you how to configure and run FeedbackFruits Peer Review assignments. It will also explore the pedagogy around supporting learners to effectively give and receive reviews.

FeedbackFruits Peer Reviews let learners review each other's draft or final assessment submissions using annotations and rubrics. In doing so, learners get to see how others have approached assessment tasks so they can improve their own work and develop skills at giving and interpreting constructive feedback. The tool has features built in to prevent plagiarism arising from these reviews.

Creating Cadmus assessments

Cadmus is an online assessment platform that facilitates the end-to-end assessment workflow for teachers and students. Cadmus sets students up to succeed with a supportive and scaffolded assessment experience. More details about this session coming soon!

Using Miro for digital whiteboards

This training will show you how to develop Miro boards for a variety of uses, and manage them in both live and asynchronous settings. You'll also be able to practice using Miro within the workshop.

Miro is an online collaborative whiteboard tool that can be used for learner discussions, document annotation, project planning, diagram/flow chart creation and more! Miro is quick to use and will help you to create more engaging and interactive courses.

Other live training options are available via Course Development Essentials, including live training for using Leganto to create and manage course readings. These other sessions aren't listed here because the AU LMS Training Team doesn't coordinate them.

When is live training available to you?

The live training schedule has been established to align your training with the relevant weeks of your course development cycle. The schedule is also cyclical, meaning that there will be training intended for other development cycles occurring during your cycle. You are free to register to attend any training session that suits your schedule - even those not necessarily aligned with your specific development cycle.

What if you can't attend?

If you're unable to attend our live training sessions, we recommend that you check out the asynchronous resources available elsewhere in the Learning Centre (which will cover everything discussed in live training anyway).

Alternatively, you can review recordings of past training sessions. This playlist also includes live training sessions provided to TALAS that may be useful for educators (including one on Cidi Labs DesignPLUS). To jump between recordings, select the Educator AU LMS training drop-down [1] in the Panopto playlist.
