Learn about the live training options available to help you develop your skills with myLearning and provide you the opportunity to ask questions about course development and/or teaching. These sessions are facilitated by the AU LMS Training Theme - the same people who maintain the Learning Centre and its resources.

Live training options

The Training Theme facilitates six different live training session types that cover a variety of foundational and unique aspects of using myLearning. These sessions are open for anyone to attend, where you're a course developer, teacher or professional staff member.

It is recommended that course developers attend as many of these live training sessions as they can, especially those that cover myLearning Essentials. Teaching and professional staff are recommended to attend the sessions most relevant to the courses they are teaching/supporting. Navigate the accordions below to find out more about your options.

Building your course myLearning Essentials

Building your course

Based on the Modules, pages & files and H5P modules, this session will show you how to set up your course using the AU Course Template and create interactive learning content using H5P.

You will learn:

how to create modules and pages
how to use the AU Course Template
how to use Cidi Labs DesignPLUS relevant to the Template
how to create H5P activities.

Creating assessments myLearning Essentials

Creating assessments

Based on the Assignments module, in this training you will learn about inbuilt Canvas assessment options. You will also be introduced to the additional assessment tools that are integrated into the learning ecosystem.

You will learn:

how to create assignments
how to enable Canvas Studio for video submissions
how to create rubrics
how to grade learners (just a brief overview)
how to weight assignments
what integrated assessment tools are available and what they can do
how to create a quiz
how to use item banks to reuse and share quiz questions.

Creating and adding videos myLearning Essentials

Creating and adding videos

Based on the Videos module, this training will show you how to use Panopto to upload, create and embed video content.

You will learn:

how to navigate and find content in Panopto
how to upload videos to Panopto
how to embed videos into your course
how to record videos using Panopto
how to edit videos using Panopto.

Creating FeedbackFruits Group Member Evaluations

Creating FeedbackFruits Group Member Evaluations

This training will show you how to configure, use and grade FeedbackFruits Group Member Evaluations.

FeedbackFruits Group Member Evaluations allow learners to evaluate group members, such as by their level of contribution toward group work. These evaluations can be formative or affect learners' grades (manually or automatically), and can help to improve learners' group work, evaluation and self-reflection skills.

Creating FeedbackFruits Peer Reviews

Creating FeedbackFruits Peer Evaluations

This training will show you how to configure and run FeedbackFruits Peer Review assignments. It will also explore the pedagogy around supporting learners to effectively give and receive reviews.

FeedbackFruits Peer Reviews let learners review each other's draft or final assignment submissions using annotations and rubrics. In doing so, learners get to see how others have approached assignment tasks. This helps them to improve their own work and develop skills at giving and interpreting constructive feedback. The tool has features built in to prevent plagiarism arising from these reviews.

Using Miro for digital whiteboards

Using Miro for digital whiteboards

Miro is an online collaborative whiteboard tool that can be used for learner discussions, project planning, diagram/flow chart creation and more! Miro is quick to use and will help you to create more engaging and interactive courses.

This training will show you how to develop Miro boards for a variety of uses, and manage them in both live and asynchronous settings. You will also be able to practice using Miro within the workshop.

Please make sure you can access Miro prior to the session (reach out to the AU LMS Support Team if you can't).

Duration: 90m*

*90m run time, but sessions are scheduled for 120m for optional Q&A.

This page only includes LMS-related training sessions facilitated by the AU LMS Training Theme. Additional live training on non-LMS course development and teaching activities are available via Course Development Essentials.

Training availability and past recordings

Training availability

The live training schedule has been established to align training with the relevant weeks of each course development cycle. However, anyone can attend any session, regardless of development cycle alignment, including teaching and professional staff.

Note that additional live training sessions have also been scheduled for early September/late October to accommodate teaching staff gaining access to myLearning/teaching courses. Again, anyone can attend any of these sessions.

Recordings of past sessions

If you are unable to attend the live training sessions, you may instead search the written training resources elsewhere in the Learning Centre (which cover the same content), or watch recordings of past sessions via the Training Theme's AU LMS Live Training Playlist.

This playlist includes recordings of recent live training sessions of each type, as well as additional sessions about Cidi Labs DesignPLUS, Ed Discussion and Mentimeter (these were delivered to TALAS, but are still okay for educators to watch).

To navigate between recordings in the playlist, select 'AU LMS Live Training Playlist' in the top-left of the screen. This will open a list of all of the recordings in the playlist, where you can simply select the one you want to watch.
